Accessibility Statement: Home

The University of Oulu's libguides.oulu.fi online service is subject to the Act on the Provision of Digital Services and the EU Accessibility Directive, which require public online services to be easily accessible. Their requirements apply to the libguides.oulu.fi online service as of September 23, 2020. This accessibility statement applies to the libguides.oulu.fi website and it was created on 2.3.2021. Accessibility has been evaluated by Oulu University Library.

Status of accessibility of the digital service

The website meets the critical accessibility requirements, with some exceptions:

  • use of colour and contrast
  • missing alternative texts (links, images, videos)
  • functionality of the menus both with the keyboard and screen readers
  • accessibility of PDF files
  • in some guides, H1 level headings are followed by H3 because the top available heading level in the publishing system editor is H3, although there are no H2 level headings in the standard elements of the pages. The problem can only be fixed when the existing tool is repaired or replaced.
  • most links on the website open by default to a new window or tab

We are working on the identified flaws.

If you are using a screen reader program, it is a good idea to change the settings of the screen reader program so that the program reads all characters as they are. The Library guides contain many examples of search strings that use e.g. parentheses, asterisks, and slashes. Essential information is not available if the reading program bypasses these characters.

Did you notice accessibility shortcomings in our digital service? Let us know and we will do our best to remedy the shortcomings. Please email us with accessibility feedback at informationservice(at)oulu.fi. If you want to leave feedback anonymously, send the feedback via Oula-Finna feedback form.
