With the discontinuation of the student and study information register Oodi, the current Laturi system for the submission of electronic theses will also be discontinued and replaced with a completely new Laturi, which will cover the entire thesis process.

Due to the implementation of the new system Laturi will be out of use 11 October – 21 November, during which time submission, approval and publishing of theses will not be possible. Please note the following effects of the system downtime:

  • All approval markings for theses already in Laturi must be submitted to an Academic Affairs service point by 10 October for recording into Oodi.
  • All theses approved by 10 October will be published in Jultika within one week. This requires that the reviewers and approvers have downloaded the thesis for assessment from Laturi before its approval.
  • Once the system downtime is over, all thesis processes that were not completed in the old system must be restarted in the new Laturi. No information from the old system is transferred into the new Laturi.

More detailed information about the introduction of the new Laturi and instructions for its use will be published later this autumn.

Electronic theses at the University of Oulu

The University of Oulu switched to electronic publishing of theses on 1 January 2013.

Students enter their finalized theses into the Laturi system for review and approval. The appointed reviewers and approvers then retrieve from the system the works assigned to them. The system will make an Urkund analysis of the thesis for the reviewer’s use if the student has given permission for this.

After approval the thesis is transferred from Laturi into the university’s central archive and made available to the public on dedicated workstations in the library. Provided that the student has given permission for this, the thesis will also made available in Jultika - the open access repository of the University of Oulu.

From 1 January 2013 only theses submitted to and retrieved from Laturi can be reviewed and approved. The use of Laturi ensures that the reviewers and approvers have access to the same file, which is also archived and saved in the library’s data systems.
