ACM (Association for Computing Machinery)

FinELib’s agreement with ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) allows authors from participating institutions to publish Open Access in ACM’s titles (journals, magazines, conference proceedings) at no additional charge.

The costs of OA publishing are covered by the agreement and paid for from Library budgets.

Your article has been accepted for publishing during 1.7.2022–31.12.2024.

Use your organisational email address when submitting the article (not gmail address etc.).

ACS (American Chemical Society)

Open publishing with FinELib agreements has ended on December 31st, 2023.

If your article was accepted for an ACS journal in 2023, and you meet the conditions for publishing, your article can be published open access for no additional fees under the old FinELib agreement.

If your article is accepted for an ACS journal in 2024, open publishing under FinELib agreement is not available.

FinELib consortium’s agreement with ACS offers authors an opportunity to publish their articles open access during the agreement term 2021 - 2023 without article processing charges (APC). There is a limited amount of free open access articles but they are estimated to cover publications for the contract period.

BioMed Central

Since the library is a supporting member of BioMed Central, researchers at the University of Oulu get 15 % discount on BioMed Central, Chemistry Central and Springer Open article processing charges.

Company of Biologists

The Read and Publish agreement (1.1.2024-31.12.2026) between The Company of Biologists and the University of Oulu gives researchers the possibility to publish their open access articles free of charge.

CUP (Cambridge University Press)

The Read and Publish agreement (1.1.2022-31.12.2024) between Cambridge University Press (CUP) and the University of Oulu gives researchers the possibility to publish their open access articles free of charge. The agreement covers all articles during the agreement term.

Open Access Waivers and Discounts

DOAJ - Directory of Open Access Journals

DOAJ lists open access journals; to be able to be included the journal has to fulfil certain prerequisities about openness etc. DOAJ gives also a list of journals withou articles processing charge (other costs may be included).

Elsevier

Under the FinELib consortium’s agreement with Elsevier, corresponding authors can publish their articles open access during 1.1.2024-31.12.2025

There is a limited number of free open access articles available. Articles will be published under CC BY or CC BY-NC-ND license. We recommend that you choose CC BY which is required by many funders.

Elsevier Cell Press

Under FinELib consortium’s agreement with Elsevier, corresponding authors can publish their articles open access without article processing charge (APC)  in Cell Press hybrid journals eligible for the agreement.

There is a limited number of free open access articles available per year.

Emerald

FinELib consortium’s agreement with Emerald offers authors an opportunity to publish their articles under the CC BY-license with a free open access voucher.

The vouchers can be used during the agreement term (1.1.2021–31.12.2023).

In 2022 and 2023 open access publishing is unlimited.

IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)

Note that the agreement covered only a limited number of articles. The articles have run out.

 

FinELib consortium’s agreement with IEEE offers authors an opportunity to publish their articles open access during the agreement term 2021 - 2023 without article processing charges (APC). However, the author may be responsible for color, page or reprint charges.

There is a limited amount of free open access articles but they are estimated to cover publications for the contract period.

Nature Research

Publishing at Nature and Nature Research journals was much higher than anticipated, resulting with the premature end of article quota.

It’s no longer possible to publish open access at Nature journals with FinELib’s agreement. The article quota, which was acquired has been used up, and there are no more articles left in the current agreement, which is in effect until December 31, 2024.

The open articles acquired for Nature and Nature Research journals were used up noticeably faster than expected. The acquired article quantity was based on publication data available at the time, but the amount of published articles was much higher than anticipated.

With the FinELib agreement, total of 33 open articles were published in the Nature and Nature Research journal family's hybrid journals.

FinELib consortium’s agreement with Springer Nature includes open access publishing in Nature Research hybrid titles (see journals list) during the agreement term 1.6.2022–31.12.2024 (note that the agreement term may vary depending on the organisation).

The corresponding author does not need to pay an APC (article processing charge). The charges are covered by the agreement.

OUP (Oxford University Press)

FinELib’s agreement with OUP allows authors from participating institutions to publish Open Access in OUP’s hybrid journals at no additional charge. The costs of OA publishing are covered by the agreement and paid for from Library budgets.

RSC (Royal Society of Chemistry)

Researchers can publish their articles open access in Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) hybrid journals without additional payment. Open access publishing is free for the researcher, since the costs have been covered as a part of FinELib consortium’s agreement (1.1.2024 – 31.12.2025).

SAGE

Researchers can publish their articles open access with CC BY licence during the agreement period 1.1.2023–31.12.2024

The most common acceptable article types are: Original Research Papers, Review Papers, Brief Communications, Short Reports and Case Reports.

SCOAP3

A worldwide consortium initiated by CERN, whose objective is to convert journals in the field of high energy physics into open access journals, regardless of their publisher. The University of Oulu is a member of the SCOAP3 consortium through FinELib.

Springer Nature

FinELib consortium’s agreement with Springer Nature includes open access publishing in Springer’s hybrid titles (see journals list) during the agreement term 1.1.2021–31.12.2023.

The corresponding author does not need to pay an APC (article processing charge). The charges are covered by the agreement.

Taylor & Francis

 

Researchers can publish their articles Open Access free of charge in the Taylor & Francis Open Select standard rate journals and in the Open Access journal Annals of Medicine during the agreement period (2023-2024). There is a limited number of OA articles available during the agreement period. 

Agreement doesn't include T&F journals in Medical fields, or most of the Full Open Access journals.

Wiley

FinELib consortium’s agreement with Wiley enables the researchers to publish their articles open access in Wiley’s Full OA and hybrid journals during the agreement term 2023–2024

Wolters Kluwer/Lippincott

FinELib consortium’s agreement with Wolters Kluwer Health offers authors an opportunity to publish their articles under the CC BY or CC BY-NC-ND license with a free open access (agreement term 2023-2024). This means that there is no article processing charge for the author. There is a limited amount of free vouchers annually per organization.
