Scopus is an abstract database

Scopus contains bibliographic data and abstracts of scientific publications.

Scopus is not a full-text database. Possible full text can be accessed via View PDF or Full text options or the link to the linking service Image of Find It button.

The oldest publications date back to the late 1700s, the latest are brand fresh, even in the press phase.

Scopus is a citation database

Bibliography publications are also saved. This has been done for publications published since 1970.

An article can be evaluated by the number of citations it receives: how many times the article appears in bibliographies of other articles in the same database.

Scopus can be used for citation analysis, where the citations received by an article are evaluated

  • Articles
  • Journals
  • Researchers, e.g. H-index
  • Researcher affiliations, e.g. universities, university rankings
  • Countries.
