Many scientific publishers charge an APC-charge (Article Processing Charge) for open access publishing. Charges range from a few tens of euros to thousands of euros. There are also Open Access journals that do not charge a writer fee.
The primary goal is to find a high-quality open access journal for the article that does not charge author fees, or a free publishing channel that allows at least the peer-reviewed manuscript version of the article to be self-archived without an embargo. The terms and conditions for self-archiving publishers can be checked at Sherpa/Romeo.
In open access publishing, it is recommended to take advantage of FinELib licence agreements for scholarly journals include open access benefits. They enable the corresponding authors to publish their articles openly, either free of article processing charges or with a discounted price.
