Instructions for publishing in the series Acta Universitatis Ouluensis: Documen templates

Accessibility

Accessibility refers to the unhindered availability of services in the digital world. Accessibility aims at providing equal, independent and easy access to online services to as many different users as possible.

In the Acta series, authors must ensure that their publication complies with the following accessibility requirements:

  1. The publication is understandable, i.e. the structure and language are clear and concise.
  2. Acta styles are used to determine the appearance of document components.
  3. All images have alternative text provided, or the image is marked as decorative.
  4. The tables use Acta's table style and templates.
  5. The title is defined in the document properties.
  6. The primary language for the document has been defined.
  7. Accessibility of the document has been checked and possible errors corrected.

Document templates: Microsoft Word

An accessible pre-filled document template for manuscripts to be published in the Acta series is available for Microsoft Office Word. The template must be used for manuscripts intended for publication in the series. It is advisable to use the template from the beginning and write the whole text with the same version of Word.

The Acta template takes accessibility requirements into account. Authors themselves format their manuscript intended for publication in the series using the pre-filled document template.

After you have opened the pre-filled document template save it under your own name in the form Lastname_Firstname.docx. Read first the instructions for use in chapter 1 Introduction (p. 14) of the template.

 

Microsoft Word

If the Acta styles do not function correctly, you can reimport the original template into the pre-filled template:

Instructions for LaTeX users

The use of LaTeX has been considered in collaboration with the accessibility experts at the Accessibility Library Celia. The accessibility problem of LaTeX can be attributed to an unreasonable burden, so the aim is to ensure that the PDF file produced with LaTeX is as accessible as it is currently possible. Based on this, the Publications Committee has decided that the use of LaTeX will continue. Accessibility developments will be monitored, and the renewed LaTeX template will be updated as necessary. 

The renewed LaTeX template will be published later.

The document ActaOuluReadMe.pdf explains how to use style files. It also provides further instructions on the use of LaTeX to prepare your dissertation (figures, tables, references etc.):

The ActaOuluReadme.pdf is based on the ActaOuluExample.tex file. It provides a template for the LaTeX version of your dissertation and includes all the parts required for a dissertation as examples:
